Ally graduated with an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2014 and was a graduate trainee in the legal services division at the Competition Commission of South Africa.

During his time at the Commission Ally assisted in the formulation of the Commission’s Competition Law guidelines, and drafting of the Commission’s case referrals to the Competition Tribunal, and was part of a litigation team in legal services that worked on cartel cases and prior implementations of mergers.

Ally was assigned to the team that worked on the merger between Coca-Coca Beverages Africa and various Coca-Cola Company bottling operations. He assisted the Cartels Division in executing dawn raids on companies implicated in alleged cartel practices in the following markets: liquefied petroleum gas, automotive glass and wood processing.

Ally was exposed to a raft of legal fields during his period of articles. He undertook training in the general litigation, commercial litigation and Insurance Law. He also has experience in Employment Law, Public Law and commercial litigation matters.

During his training, Ally has worked on personal injury and medical negligence claims, contractual disputes, and review applications related to procurement irregularities. He was exposed to Labour Court and CCMA litigation, initiating disciplinary inquiries on behalf of private and public-sector employers, and has represented executive employees in employment law matters.

As an Associate, Ally has been involved in various commercial litigation matters, including commercial property rental agreements. He recently carried out due diligence on over 900 agreements between a medical scheme and its intermediaries with a view to ensure that such broker agreements satisfied the requirements of the Regulator and the applicable legal framework.
