Phineath obtained her LLB degree from the University of Johannesburg in 2021. During her time at the University of Johannesburg, she was a tutor of the Law of Contract Module in the Faculty of Law. In 2020, she volunteered at the UJ Community Engagement and did job shadowing at Hammond Pole Attorneys. In July 2021, she was selected to attend the Winter Vacation Programmes at Bowmans Gilfillan and Eversheds Sutherland. Phineath began her articles at Malatji & Co Attorneys in 2022 where she obtained training in the Commercial Litigation and Public Law Department, Corporate Commercial Department as well as the Employment Law Department.
The work undertaken by Phineath during her articles includes drafting of some court documents, opinions to client and rulings, conducting extensive legal research, participation in consultations with client and counsel, attendance to hearings at different tribunals such as High Courts (in different provinces), Labour Court, CCMA, Land Claims Court, Competition Tribunal, and attendance to disciplinary inquiries on behalf of private and public-sector employers. Phineath has recently been appointed as an Associate Designate in the Commercial Litigation Department.
